FOR FRUITFUL CELEBRATION OF THE CENTENARY OF THE FATIMA APPARITIONS: 21 Jan 2017

INTRODUCTION: “The Centenary of the Fatima Apparitions (1917-2017) is a historical occasion on which we will express our praise and gratitude to the Most Holy Trinity for the love poured out, through Mary, on a humanity in need to be reconciled with God and longing to get up from the abyss. One hundred years represent already a long pilgrimage through time, inviting us to ‘recall,’ as Moses used to urge his people to do: ‘Remember how for forty years the Lord, your God, has led you all journeying in the desert…So, you must realize that the Lord, your God, disciplines you even as a man disciplines his son’ (Deut 8, 2.5) [From the Letter of Most Rev. António Marto, Bishop of Leiria-Fatima].
Pope Francis on 11 May 2016 said Our Lady of Fatima “invites us once again to turn to prayer, penance, and conversion. She asks us to never offend God again. She forewarns all humanity about the necessity of abandoning oneself to God, the source of love and mercy. Following the example of St. John Paul II, a great devotee of Our Lady of Fatima, let us listen attentively to the Mother of God and ask for peace for the world,”

BACKGROUND: The Message of Fatima is being preached to the contemporary world, focusing on the six New Evangelization issues:-

1.      Fatima presents to our modern society the need for the conversion of human hearts! God is a family, the Trinitarian Family longing to share its Trinitarian Love and Life with Humanity! In Fatima, the shepherd children contemplated the Most Holy Trinity through the Immaculate Heart of Mary and were transformed by this experience of love as they were immersed in God as if in an ocean of infinite Love, Grace and Mercy.

2.      Prayer is the way to contemplate the mystery of God. Those wanting to grow in their spiritual life must practice the prayer of meditation. There is no better prayer of meditation based on the Holy Scriptures than the Holy Rosary! It develops in us the prayer of contemplation and therefore a profound inner spiritual life. The present spiritual and moral crisis assailing the world is caused by the absence of prayer.

3.      Penance today is, before anything else, the Sanctification of our Daily Duties. It is possible to be holy, living God’s joy and peace on earth, through the daily offering of our duties to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as a way to sanctify our lives and offer testimony of our Christian faith among our neighbours.

4.      The Communion of Reparation of the Five First Saturdays creates the holy habit of monthly Confession, Eucharistic Reparation and true devotion to Mary, through the authentic appreciation of Her Immaculate Heart, as people renew their baptismal promises and consecrate themselves to God through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the soul of the Message of Fatima.

5.      Daily Family Prayer, particularly the meditated Holy Rosary. It is commonly known that “the family that prays together stays together.”

6.      The frequent – and even daily -- Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a sure antidote against the loss of faith! This loss of faith and morals is part of the Fatima prophecy. All ranks of the People of God, especially those in most need of God’s mercy, should consecrate themselves or be entrusted to the Immaculate Heart of Mary: (1) to prevent the loss of faith and morals among the faithful in our days; (2) to atone for the sins of the society of our time; (3) to bring down on the Church the special Marian protection given to those “favoured disciples of Jesus,” like John the Apostle, who was closer to the Heart of His Master and Redeemer and who received Mary as Spiritual Mother at the foot of the Cross. The Brown Scapular is a sign of this consecration and must be propagated.

For a fruitful CELEBRATION OF THE CENTENARY OF THE FATIMA APPARITIONS and a fruitful reception of Divine Grace and Mercy, Pastors and Superiors of Religious Communities, under local Bishop / Superior / Priest are encouraged and keenly requested to hold the following PASTORAL ACTIVITIES  in Parishes / Chapels / Institutions / Houses, etc. with due discernment and appropriate publicity in the Parish bulletin, Sunday Mass announcements, etc:

1] COMMUNION OF REPARATION ON THE FIRST SATURDAYS:  (1) Confession, valid if done on previous day, if First Friday and in state of Grace, (2) Holy Communion (3) Recitation of Five Decades of the Rosary and (4) Keeping company to Our Lady for a quarter of an hour while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary (5) with the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for the sins committed by mankind. This is complementary to the First Friday devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Why are there FIVE First Saturdays? Our Lord…answered: “…. There are five kinds of offences and blasphemies against My Mother: (1)… against Her Immaculate Conception; (2)… against Her Virginity; (3)… against Her Divine Maternity; (4)… of those who openly seek to foster in the hearts of Her children indifference or even hatred for their Immaculate Mother; (5) of those who directly outrage Her in Her Holy Images.” Each of the Five Saturdays corresponds to a specific offence.

THIS IS THE GREAT PROMISE OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY through the First Saturdays Devotion:  1) Peace on earth; 2) Conversion of many sinners; 3) Grace of final perseverance for those practicing it; 4) Grace of unity and strength to the Universal Church against inner dissentions opposed to the Magisterium of the Successor of Peter (a special divine assistance to the Pope’s Petrine ministry). 5) The triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary promised at Fatima. Our Lady to Lucia in 1920: “I promise salvation to all those who embrace it (The First Saturdays Devotion) and their souls will be loved by God as flowers placed by Myself to adorn His throne”.

HOW DOES ONE GO ABOUT?
OPTION 1:
30 minutes: ROSARY with 15 minutes of meditation;

c) To the faithful who, due to their age, illness or another serious cause, are hindered of moving, if repented of all their sins and with the firm intention to carry out, as soon as it will be possible to them, the three conditions indicated below, in front of a small image of Our Lady of Fatima, on the days of the apparitions, joining spiritually the jubilee celebrations, offering with confidence to the merciful God through Mary their prayers and pains, or the sacrifices of their own life.

DIVINE WILL: It is the will of God that many sinners should be converted. The extraordinary calls at Fatima and Poland (Divine Mercy) are ways by which God communicates His will for the conversion of hearts when there is still time to convert. Now is the time when Divine Grace and Divine Mercy are yearning and waiting for the conversion of sinners. Putting off this spiritual programme to a later date may be disastrous for the soul.

By the working of the Holy Spirit, the Jubilee Year of Mercy for the Universal Church was proclaimed by Pope Francis precisely before the Centenary Jubilee Year of the Fatima Apparitions, the year 2017, thus serving also as a great spiritual and pastoral preparation for the commemoration of one of the greatest Mariophanies in the history of the Church.

The Jubilee Year of Fatima should become a prolonged spiritual retreat for the faithful, to fulfil the beautiful prophecy of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI at the end of his homily of May, 13, 2010 in the Shrine of Fatima, about the definitive triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary: “May the seven years which separate us from the Centenary of the Apparitions hasten the fulfillment of the prophecy of the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to the Glory of the Most Holy Trinity.”

We wish you Grace, Mercy and Peace in this Great Jubilee Centenary Year of the Fatima Apparitions!

PLEASE KNEEL….

The Main celebrant now proceeds to expose the Most Blessed Sacrament

SPEND FEW MOMENTS KNEELING IN DEEP ADORATION…….

We shall now recite the Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Fatheralmighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

We will now recite the Angel’s Reparation and Pardon prayer FOR THE CONVERSION OF POOR SINNERS 2:

(Please repeat):  “Most Holy Trinity,/ Father, Son/ and the Holy Spirit,/ I adore Thee profoundly/ and offer Thee/ the Most Precious Body,/ Blood, Soul/ and Divinity/ of Jesus Christ/ present in all the tabernacles/ of the world,/ in reparation/ for the outrages,/ sacrileges/ and the indifferences/ by which He is offended./ And through the infinite merits/ of His Most Sacred Heart,/ and the Immaculate Heart of Mary,/ I beg of Thee/ the conversion of poor sinners” (once)

(Please repeat):  “My God, I believe,/ I adore, I hope/ and I love Thee
I ask pardon of Thee/ for those who do not believe,/ do not adore, /do not hope/ and do not love Thee” (3 times)
“Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on us and on the Whole World” (3 times)

(You may now sit): We will now reflect on Pope Francis’ Messages of 11 May and October 2016 on Our Lady::
Pope Francis said Our Lady of Fatima “invites us once again to turn to prayer, penance, and conversion.....Our Lady asks us to never offend God again. She forewarns all humanity about the necessity of abandoning oneself to God, the source of love and mercy.......Following the example of St. John Paul II, a great devotee of Our Lady of Fatima, let us listen attentively to the Mother of God and ask for peace for the world – “Praised be Jesus Christ!”
“The Rosary is the prayer that always accompanies my life: it is also the prayer of simple people and saints...it is the prayer of my heart.......
The Rosary is “a synthesis of Divine Mercy.” With Mary, in the mysteries of the Rosary, we contemplate the life of Jesus which irradiates the mercy of the Father. Let us rejoice in His love and forgiveness, let us recognize it in others and in those who are needy, let us live His Gospel every day.......
Our Lady is always close to Her children and ready to help when we pray to Her, when we ask for Her protection… let us remember She is always ready to serve and never keeps anyone waiting.”.

We will now pray one Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be for our Holy Fathers Pope Francis and Benedict 16th, Our Bishop…….., all priests, (mention names of your local priests), religious, and the entire Church to carry out their mission to the fullest. Sanctify, strengthen, give them good health and configure them to your Sacred Heart

Jesus, help us to say often this SACRIFICE PRAYER many times, especially when we make some sacrifice: O  Jesus,/ it is for love of Thee,/ for the conversion of sinners,/ and in reparation/ for the sins / committed against / the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Spend few moments in silence

HYMN: All to Jesus, I surrender………

“O Virgin Mary/ My Mother/ I give to Your Immaculate Heartmy body and my soul/ my thoughts and my actions// I want to be/ just what You/ want me to be/ and do just what/ You want me to do// I am not afraid /because You are/ always with me// Help me/ to love Your Son, Jesus/ with all my heart/ and above all things// Take my hand in yours/ so I can always be with You / Amen//4

Blessed be St. Joseph Her Most Chaste Spouse.
Blessed be God in His Angles and in His Saints!

Moderator: In the name of The Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

RECESSIONAL HYMN AND MESSAGE OF FATHER if possible to follow this example of Blessed Francisco of Fatima of consoling “Hidden Jesus” in the Blessed Sacrament as often as possible to be happy and peaceful by overcoming the evils of our times, by the power of the Holy Spirit! We shall receive the “consolation of their incomparable victory of their precious prayers!”5
JESUS in the Gospel has a special predilection for the little ones. So has Mary, His Mother, and She has consistently shown this in the course of history. Jesus and Mary seem to entrust to children the problems of the humankind and of the Church. 6

Regulations to be followed: The posture of kneeling or of bowing low at adoration expresses the recognition of our humility before the Almighty Lord (cf. Phil 2:10).When the priest and the faithful kneel before the Eucharist (cf. IGMR, 43), they express their faith in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the sacrament of the altar. (cf. CCC, 1387). In kneeling before the Eucharist and adoring the Lamb who allows us to celebrate the Pasch with Him, we are taught not to bow down before man-made idols, and we are given the capacity to obey Him whom we recognize as the only Lord of the Church and the world in a spirit of fidelity, docility and veneration. Kneeling is an apt sign of reverence for the Blessed Sacrament. Our modest and fitting dress (avoiding shorts and indecent apparel) signifies our belief in and worship for the Holy Eucharist. For exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the monstrance, four to six candles are lighted, as at Mass, and incense is used. For exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the ciborium, at least two candles should be lighted and incense may be used.7

CONSECRATION OF PARISH / DIOCESE / INSTITUTION / COMMUNITY

Hail, Virgin of Fatima, Mother of God, Mother of the Church, our Mother and Queen of heaven and earth and Refuge of sinners, today, with great joy in our heart, we consecrate our Parish (of ...................... ) / Diocese of ……. to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart.

We consecrate our PARISH PRIEST (Fr .....................) / our BISHOP…… and all other PRIESTS and RELIGIOUS in this Parish / Archdiocese, who are working tirelessly for the good of our souls. Loving Mother, enclose them all in your Heart and make them, day by day, more and more like Jesus, so that, in their words and deeds, they may bear witness as true followers of Jesus to believers and non believers alike.

We consecrate to you our ELDERLY. Only you are the support in their old age, strength in their weakness and medicine to their illness, helping them to carry the burdens of their old age with Christian fortitude and to grow in the love of God and thus shine out as examples to the younger generations, before they are called to their eternal reward by the sovereign will of Jesus, your Son. Loving Mother, help them to carry their daily cross and thus grow in the likeness of your Son.

We consecrate to you our MARRIED COUPLES. You are aware of the many and great difficulties they face in their state of life. Mother, strengthen them, so that they will obey all God’s teachings and accept children as His precious gifts, bringing them up in maturity, wisdom and grace, according to the commandments of God.

We consecrate to you our SICK BROTHERS AND SISTERS. You know their sufferings and difficulties. Help them bear their suffering with Christian joy and hope. If it is God’s will, dearest and loving Mother, may they receive healing and be restored to good health soon.

We consecrate to you our YOUTH. You know their enthusiasm, desires and dreams. You also know the modern day problems they face: drugs, bad books, obscene movies, illicit relationships, etc. Protect them under your mantle from all these evils and help them follow God’s calling; and make them citizens that will bring honour to the Church and the country.

We consecrate to you our SMALL CHILDREN. Help them to preserve the holiness they received at baptism and give us your wisdom and strength to bring them up according to the law of Christ.

Finally, we consecrate to you ALL THE PEOPLE living in this Parish / Archdiocese, some of whom still do not accept your Son as their Saviour. Reveal to them the plan of God in their life, so that they too will find their place in our Father’s house, as members of the same family and sheep of the same flock.

Most loving Mother, please accept this consecration of our Parish / Archdiocese. Through your powerful intercession may Jesus fully reign in our hearts and may we be joyful witnesses of his kingdom of Truth and Life, of Holiness and Grace, of Justice, Love and Peace. And, enveloped by the light that comes from your hands, may we come to celebrate the Centenary of your Apparitions at Fatima, giving glory to our Lord and God forever and ever. Amen.

JUBILEE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION (By the Shrine of Fatima)
Hail, Mother of the Lord,
Virgin Mary, Queen of the Rosary of Fatima!
Blessed among all women,
You are the image of the Church dressed in the Paschal light,
You are the honour of our people,
You are the triumph over the mark of evil.
Prophecy of the Merciful Love of the Father,
Teacher of the Annunciation of the Good News of the Son,
Sign of the burning Fire of the Holy Spirit,
teach us, in this valley of joys and sorrows,
the eternal truths that the Father reveals to the little ones.
Show us the strength of your Mantle of protection.

In your Immaculate Heart,
be the refuge of sinners
and the way that leads to God.
In unity with my brethren,

In Faith, Hope and Love,
I surrender myself to you.
In unity with my brethren, through you, I consecrate myself to God,
O Virgin of the Rosary of Fatima
And thus surrounded by the Light that comes from your hands,

I will give Glory to the Lord for ever and ever.
Amen.

BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE CONSECRATION

To consecrate our person, our family, our parish, our diocese, our nation, our world to God through the Immaculate Heart of Mary is to PREPARE OURSELVES TO OFFER TO GOD our being and possessions, all that we were, are and will be, our virtues and our sins, our strengths and our weaknesses, our unfaithfulness, in an OBLATION OF LOVE, imitating Jesus Christ who totally gave himself to the Eternal Father on the Cross.

We become true DISCIPLES AND APOSTLES of Jesus following Mary’s steps. Consecration is the most important spiritual lesson in Fatima. To repair the damage caused by sin we have to offer ourselves to the Good Lord, we have to become other John’s, other beloved disciples that will restore God’s majesty and glory diminished by the sins of the world.

We will repair the offences against His Love, and the terrible damage against the Mystical Body of Christ, the Church that suffers and bleeds so much for so many of her children! This is the infinite spiritual power of CONSECRATION based on Christ’s merits and the superabundant treasures of GRACE AND MERCY mentioned in the Apparition of Tuy. (On 13 June 1929, while Sister Lucia adored the Blessed Sacrament at midnight, the Most Holy Trinity appeared to her accompanied by the Immaculate Heart of Mary).

Through His Passion, Death on the Cross and Resurrection, and through our collaboration and participation in His GRACE AND MERCY, our souls will be loved by God in a special way, with a love of predilection.

On June 13th, 1917, Our Lady of Fatima said to Lucia: “Jesus wishes to use you in making me known and loved. He wishes to spread in the world the devotion to my Immaculate Heart (Communion of Reparation of First Saturdays). I promise salvation to those who embrace this devotion and those souls will be loved by God, like flowers placed by me to adorn His throne… My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.”

So it will be for us too! Let us consecrate ourselves and all we care for to the Immaculate Heart of Mary! The world is fragile. We must hand it over to the Heart of our Spiritual Mother; we must confide our fate and that of humanity to the DIVINE PROVIDENCE!
